AKITAS AND THEIR HEALTH

Every healthy dog has the potential to produce a disease, disorder and/or major fault when being bred.  There is no such thing as a "HEALTHY BREEDING". A breeding may produce healthy dogs, but these resulting dogs ALWAYS have the potential of disaster when combined with that one genetic trait.  This is the reason for genetic studies and DNA Markers.  Some breeders may take shame in producing a disorder that is out of their control, with the ending result of hiding, denying or disposing of the problem quietly.  In the long run, this is not going to help or find an accurate cause of these issues - thus eliminating it from our breed.  Disorders found in Akitas maybe more prevalent then the average breeder would like to admit or has knowledge of.  It is the duty of breeders to part take in the research studies available to us for the future of this breed.
