Pets that do this type of work need specific qualifications, as well as special commitment from their owners. The owner/pet team is evaluated before they are approved for Pet Therapy. Pets must be friendly and like attention from strangers. They must be able to take new and strange situations in stride, and react in a calm manner. Pets are required to be under good control. Owners should commit to a housebroken, well groomed and clean pet for every therapy visit. It's a special moment when fur meets frailty. A connection is made and some joy is brought to the lonely and the ill. Whether visiting elderly patients or children, it is a rewarding experience for all involved. Consider doing pet therapy with your Akita.
